Sustainability Coordinator I
The Sustainability Coordinator position is located in the Belmont Lake Regional HQ office of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) within the Energy and Sustainability Bureau (ESB), in the Long Island Region. The position will report directly to the Long Island Region Deputy Regional Director. The ESB's aim is to make the New York State park system the most sustainably operated park system in the country. The position will provide support for many of the Energy and Sustainability Bureau's outlined initiatives and additional sustainability projects or programs that arise. The ESB works within the following fields:
o Energy Efficiency o Renewable Energy o Energy Conservation o Clean Fuel Vehicle and Equipment o Reduced Mowing o Recycling o Water Conservation The Energy and Sustainability Bureau works to enact many of the Governor's Executive Orders relating to sustainability including:
o Executive Order 4:
Establishing a State Green Procurement and Agency Sustainability Program (2008) o Executive Order 88:
Directing State Agencies and Authorities to Improve the Energy Efficiency of State Buildings (2012) o Executive Order 166:
Redoubling New York's Fight Against the Economic and Environmental Threats Posed by Climate Change and Affirming the Goals of the Paris Climate Agreement (2017) The ESB submits agency data for statewide energy and sustainability reporting. The ESB actively serves on a few interagency sustainability committees including the Interagency Committee on Sustainability and Green Procurement, the Zero-Emission Vehicle Committee, and the Zero-Emission Outreach subcommittee. Candidates will have the opportunity to attend committee meetings and participate in discussions about changes to state-wide sustainability reporting. Duties Description Projects o Work with Parks employees to enact sustainable changes through renewable, efficiency and conservation energy projects, campaigns, or educational/outreach events o Assist with LED lighting replacements regionwide o Participate in site evaluations and photovoltaic installations with parks staff and regional maintenance crews o Assist with troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance work on completed solar arrays o Coordinate EV Charging Station and Hydration Station Installations o Participate in recycling projects o Meet with bureau employees, Parks regional and park staff, and external partners for various energy and sustainability projects Research, Data Analysis, Writing, Reporting o Research new potential projects or areas of focus, partners, and funding opportunities o Work with the Long Island Regional Business Office to analyze electricity usage and heating usage data. Track electricity usage impacts from solar and energy efficiency projects o Assess vehicle usage data o Assess park waste and recycling data o Analyze data, write reports, and create presentations in relation to projects worked on. o Assist with PSEG utility rebate process o Assist with executive order reporting Bureau/Agency Representation o Represent the agency and give presentations on its Energy & Sustainability programming. Potential audiences can include:

Minimum Qualification
Candidates should have a strong interest in energy improvements, sustainability efforts and advancing the mission of the bureau and agency. Candidates must have good communication skills, flexibility to work on different assignments, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidates must have experience using programs within the Microsoft suite. Candidates will have a bachelor's degree or relevant experience working on energy and/or sustainability projects and programming. Technical skills that can be utilized to advance any of the ESB's primary focuses are highly encouraged.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
